Office of Public Information announced today that Attorney General Maura Healey unveiled new artwork in her office on October 22, 2022. The artwork, which was chosen to make a statement about the values upheld by Healey and her office, features illustrations of notable figures and symbols important to the state of Massachusetts.

The decision to spruce up the office with new artwork came after careful consideration and collaboration between Healey and a team of art experts. The aim was to create a welcoming and representative space that reflects the diverse community the office serves.

One of the main focal points of the artwork is an illustration of Frederick Douglass, a prominent abolitionist and civil rights activist who rose to prominence in the 19th century. His inclusion pays homage to his legacy and his significant impact on civil rights and equality.

Additionally, the artwork includes depictions of two notable women: Abigail Adams, the wife of President John Adams and a strong advocate for women’s rights, and Melnea Cass, a local civil rights activist known for her dedication to social justice causes.

Not only does the artwork celebrate the accomplishments of these influential individuals, but it also features symbols that represent the rich history and culture of Massachusetts. The state’s iconic blue and gold flag is prominently displayed, alongside illustrations of the historic Fenway Park baseball stadium and the renowned Harvard University.

Attorney General Healey expressed her excitement over the new art installations, stating, “The artwork in my office reflects the values and aspirations that guide our work to ensure justice, equality, and opportunity for all.” She further emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and inspiring work environment.

Members of the public can now catch a glimpse of the newly adorned office through virtual tours or official visits to the Attorney General’s office. The unveiling of these thoughtfully chosen art pieces represents Healey’s commitment to using her position to promote and uphold the values that are fundamental to the state of Massachusetts.
